Team New Brunswick wins 12 medals at Skills Canada National Competition
MONCTON, NB - The 22 members of Team New Brunswick arrived home on May 29th after participating at the Skills Canada National Competition in Vancouver, British Columbia. Their suitcases were a bit heavier one on the return journey following a harvest of medals in 12 disciplines.
"We are extremely proud of the team's performance this year at the National Competition," said Jessica MacDonald, SCNB President. ‘Each year, the students and apprentices who form Team New Brunswick raise the level of excellence in their respective disciplines. Skills Canada New Brunswick strives to celebrate skilled trades and show young people the successful and rewarding career opportunities available to them in the skilled trades and technology sectors."
The competitive platform created by Skills Canada's National Competition is a constructive forum and celebration event that inspires students and apprentices to perpetuate the tradition of excellence in the skilled trades and technologies. This National Competition recognizes the exceptional importance and abilities of young tradespeople in Canada. The students and apprentices listed below represent a small portion of the future skilled workforce in the province.

Erin McNeil and Ralf de Nijs: Silver (Apprenticeship Saint John Region) – Landscape Gardening Daniel Lee and Duran Wang: Silver: (Bernice McNaughton High School) – Mobile Robotics Shawn Degooyer: Silver: (NBCC Moncton) – CNC Machining
Calvin Getchell: Silver: (Apprenticeship Saint John Region) – Industrial Mechanics
Aiden Smith: Bronze: (Apprenticeship Fredericton Region) – Welding
Cedric Fortin: Bronze: (Apprenticeship Bathurst Region) – Heavy Equipment Technology
Alex Johnston: Bronze: (Apprenticeship Saint John Region) – Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
Colin Urquhart: Bronze (Apprenticeship Saint John Region) – Steamfitter-Pipefitter
Jose Pazmino: Bronze (NBCC Saint John) – Autobody Repair

In addition to his Silver Medal in Industrial Mechanics, Calvin Getchell won The RBC Best of Region award for New Brunswick
